Following their initial collaboration with RME on the Digiface RAVENNA, DirectOut has introduced the USB.IO, a USB audio interface module, to their MAVEN and PRODIGY platforms.
Utilizing RME’s USB 3.0 core and renowned low latency technology, the USB.IO offers high performance and stability with both Windows and Mac drivers.
Enhanced Performance and Compatibility
The new USB-C version of the interface supports an impressive 128 channels I/O at standard sample rates (1FS) and a range from 44.1 kHz to 192 kHz. This makes it easier to integrate DirectOut’s converters and multifunction processors into computer-based production systems, whether on tour or in the studio.
TotalMix FX Integration
An exciting feature of the USB.IO module is the inclusion of RME’s TotalMix FX software. This software offers extensive mixing and routing options, including up to 128 separate submixes, internal Loopback routing, and flexible mixer and matrix views. TotalMix FX provides users with a comprehensive solution for interfacing with an external computer.
Advanced Driver Support and Class-Compliant USB Mode
The USB.IO module offers advanced driver support for Windows (ASIO, WDM) and macOS (Kernel Extension and DriverKit Core Audio). It also features a USB 3 Class-Compliant mode, which transfers all 128 channels for both recording and playback. This mode allows for driverless operation, making the module instantly compatible with iPads and other devices for seamless on-the-go audio production.
Enhanced Reliability with EARS™ Support
The USB.IO card includes DirectOut’s proprietary Enhanced Automatic Redundancy Switching (EARS™) technology. EARS ensures continuous audio playback by automatically switching to a backup source in the event of a signal loss, providing an additional layer of reliability for live performances and broadcasts.
Statements from DirectOut and RME
Claudio Becker-Foss, CTO of DirectOut, expressed enthusiasm about the new interface: “We are very happy to offer a USB audio interface for the PRODIGY series and MAVEN. RME’s long-standing experience in implementing computer interfaces and their drivers is legendary, and their philosophy to create long-lasting devices with maximum performance and long-term support matches our mindset perfectly.”
Matthias Carstens, Head of Design at RME, added: “DirectOut’s PRODIGY family is a state-of-the-art modular system. RME is happy to provide a professional audio interface solution as an optional module, continuing the successful collaboration with DirectOut.”
