DJI Unveils Mic 2 with 32-Bit Float Recording and Enhanced Bluetooth Features

DJI has just unveiled the DJI Mic 2, a 2.4GHz wireless audio set. This latest offering from the company includes two transmitters, a single receiver, and a metal charging case for the entire set.

Each transmitter in the DJI Mic 2 set is equipped with 8GB of internal storage and supports up to 32-bit float audio recording, with an option for 24-bit recording accompanied by a -6dB safety track. These transmitters can connect to phones and other DJI cameras via Bluetooth.

Receiver Specifications
The receiver unit of the DJI Mic 2 set is versatile, offering USB-C and lightning adapters, along with a 3.5mm analog output cable. This makes it adaptable for various recording devices.

Market Competition
DJI and RØDE have been prominent players in the wireless audio set market, consistently introducing innovative products to outdo each other. RØDE’s Wireless GO II, launched in February 2021, was followed by DJI’s first-generation DJI Mic in November 2021, which was released in April 2022. RØDE responded with the Wireless PRO in August of the following year, introducing 32-bit audio recording and other advanced features.

DJI’s Response with DJI Mic 2
In a move to compete with RØDE’s Wireless PRO, DJI has now released the DJI Mic 2. It aims to refine the features of its first-generation model.

Design and Connectivity
The standard DJI Mic 2 set includes two transmitter units and one receiver unit, along with a charging case. It operates on the crowded 2.4GHz frequency but boasts internal recording in the transmitters to counter interference issues. The system is claimed to be compatible with a range of DJI and smartphone devices through Bluetooth and other connections.

Advanced Receiver Features
The receiver unit is enhanced with a 1.1″ OLED touchscreen for easy access to settings and adjustments, including volume and gain. It also includes a 3.5mm headphone jack for audio monitoring.

Transmitter Capabilities
Transmitters in the DJI Mic 2 set feature omnidirectional mics with intelligent noise-canceling technology and support for external mics via a 3.5mm jack. They offer dual-channel recording, with each unit capable of storing up to 14 hours of 48kHz 24-bit audio. The transmitters also have a safety track feature and support 32-bit float internal recording.

Color Options and Design
The DJI Mic 2 transmitters are available in shadow black and pearl white, featuring a clip-on design with magnetic attachment, suitable for various clothing options.

Battery Life and Range
The set’s metal charging case is newly designed and enhances the battery life of each transmitter to up to 6 hours. The total recording time with the charging case extends to 18 hours. DJI claims a range of up to 250 meters (820 ft.) for the set in ideal conditions. However, users are advised of potential interference in the 2.4GHz frequency, mitigated by the internal recording feature of the transmitters.
