DJI Unveils Ronin 4D-8K: Next-Gen Filmmaking

DJI releases the Ronin 4D-8K, featuring the new Zenmuse X9-8K camera for advanced 8K 60FPS and ProRes RAW video capture.

DJI, a leader in cinematic technology, has officially launched the Ronin 4D-8K, a significant upgrade in their stabilized cinema camera range. This new model, priced at $12,838, introduces the Zenmuse X9-8K gimbal camera, capable of capturing stunning 8K footage at up to 60fps and 4K at 120fps in ProRes RAW format.

First seen over two years ago, the Ronin 4D series has evolved from its initial 6K version to this high-performing 8K model. The Zenmuse X9-8K, distinct from its lighter counterpart on the Inspire 3 drone, the Zenmuse X9-8K Air, offers a range of resolutions and framerates in ProRes RAW. This includes 8K up to 75fps in 2.39:1 format, 4K full-sensor at 120fps, and a Super35 crop mode at 5.5K 60fps.

Notably, the Zenmuse X9-8K boasts a 9-stop built-in ND filter and a user-interchangeable lens mount, accommodating various lens types. It features an impressive dynamic range, claimed by DJI to be up to 14.7 stops. These specifications, along with the camera’s compact size, make it an innovative addition to the world of cinematic technology.

The Ronin 4D-8K camera body remains consistent with its predecessor, offering updates like a flex tether system and a ProRes RAW paid license option. It supports various media types including CFexpress 2.0 Type B cards, DJI PROSSD, and USB-C external SSDs. However, certain recording modes, like ProRes RAW, are exclusive to the DJI PROSSD.

In terms of color processing, the Ronin 4D-8K features the DJI Cinema Color Science (DCCS). This technology provides accurate color adjustments and natural skin tones across various lighting conditions. The camera’s CineCore processing platform handles the high-resolution video, offering formats like H.264, ProRes 422 HQ, ProRes RAW, and CinemaDNG.

The Ronin 4D-8K combo kit includes the main body, Zenmuse X9-8K camera, a DJI DL PZ 17-28mm T3.0 ASPH lens, 1TB PROSSD, hand grips, a high-bright main monitor, TB50 battery, LiDAR range finder, and the Ronin 4D RAW license key, among other accessories.

DJI also caters to existing Ronin 4D users with the Zenmuse X9-6K by offering the Zenmuse X9-8K camera separately for $3,599. This new launch marks a significant milestone for DJI, setting a new benchmark in the field of cinematic camera technology.
