Dmitry Bunevich, Senior Manager at Sony Electronics, in the annual review TKT1957.
-
What trends will be the most important for the industry in the next five years?
I believe that trends heavily depend on the region, as both financial capabilities and the specifics of television production vary greatly between countries. In general, the transition to IP is gradually entering a more active phase, which can be noticed both in the interests of our clients and in the simplification of the technology as a whole. The OB van market will continue to exist in its current form, as Remote Production is not being implemented everywhere and at all times. I do not anticipate significant growth or reduction in the OB van market over the next five years.
2. Which technologies and solutions are promising? What may not have significant chances of success?
Sony, as a company, is focused on developing IP solutions to maintain its leadership position in the television market. Among the main directions, it is worth noting the use of more affordable commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) server hardware, the expansion of software solutions from various manufacturers, and the integration of “engines” from the Unreal series for creating various graphical designs, including virtual studios. I want to draw attention to the fact that at recent television exhibitions, Sony showcased a range of practical and partly unique solutions using “game engines” for virtual production design. However, in the CIS market, solutions on public clouds may not gain significant traction for various technical and organizational reasons.
3. How did the year 2023 affect your company? What significant events of 2023 could you highlight?
Despite the “complex” global situation, 2023 turned out to be better for Sony than 2022. We hope that 2024 will maintain the same trend for both us and the market as a whole.
4. What are the plans for your company in 2024?
As always, our plans become officially known at international events (NAB, IBC, ISE, etc.), but I can say from my perspective that the company continues to develop in the main directions. And I am confident that Sony’s new solutions, as before, will introduce new unique technologies for television and beyond production.
