Domo Broadcast Systems and Timeline TV have partnered with Formula E Technology to launch an innovative in-car broadcasting solution. This technology facilitates the distribution of footage from 220 on-board cameras across 22 race cars simultaneously.

The system is designed to transmit multiple camera angles either simultaneously or individually. It comes equipped with integrated switching, real-time over-air playback, and the capability for operators to control multiple cameras remotely.

Launched in January, the system utilizes 1080P50 cameras with HDR capabilities. By the time of the Formula E race in Monaco in May, the technology had evolved to allow seamless transitions between 10 cameras during a complete on-board lap.

Additionally, the system features an enhanced T-forward camera, which provides a comprehensive view of the entire car from the roll-hood. This camera is equipped with a 1-inch UHD sensor that can pan left and right within the live UHD image.

The system also includes an on-board recorder that can capture footage from eight of the 10 car cameras. This ensures that even if an incident is missed or a camera isn’t active, live replays, including the omitted shots, can be broadcasted in real-time. Furthermore, the FIA accesses all 13 live feeds, allowing Timeline’s production team to promptly provide footage for review in case of any incidents.

Post-decoding, all streams are relayed to London. The control system extends from the race circuit to the remote production gallery, ensuring the London-based production team has the same level of control they would have on-site.
