Dream Chip, in collaboration with their German distributor Teltec, has finalized the installation of 14 AtomOne mini zoom cameras at the Riot Games Arena.
This upgrade is part of Riot Games’ initiative to transform the LEC studio into a dedicated eSports venue catering to multiple game titles.
Project Development and Implementation
The plan to revamp the arena was introduced in September 2022 and the project was entrusted to NIYU in April 2023. The company coordinated with two other firms to implement the changes, with the arena officially opening for games in January 2024. This new setup not only continues to host the League of Legends EMEA championship but also supports the expansion into other eSports such as VALORANT and TeamFight Tactics.
Focus on Flexible and Immersive Experience
The renovated venue boasts a capacity for 210 live spectators, yet the emphasis has shifted towards enhancing the online viewing experience. The design allows quick adjustments to the setup to meet the specific needs of different tournaments. Moreover, superior facilities for competitors have been developed to ensure they can concentrate fully on their performances, while still providing fans behind-the-scenes access.
Camera Selection and Specifications
The choice of AtomOne mini zoom cameras was made due to their compact size and non-intrusive design, making them ideal for close-range shots of the gamers. These cameras, measuring 600mm x 85mm and weighing 267g, are mounted on custom-made power supply units adjacent to each monitor. They offer full HD resolution, a wide-angle lens, and full HDR capability, ensuring broadcast-quality video.
Comments from Project Leaders
Marc Dörmann from Teltec highlighted the cameras’ exceptional color matrix, which eases the color matching process in broadcast setups.
Mike Doerfling of NIYU praised the installation, noting that the high-quality setup meets Riot’s requirement for an environment that captures the excitement and nuances of competitive gaming.
