DZOFILM Gnosis Macro Cine Lenses Released

DZOFILM Gnosis Macro Cine T2.8 prime lenses offer three focal lengths – 32mm, 65mm, and 90mm – while offering magnification ratios between 1:1 and 1.5:1 with close focus from 167mm (6.6″) from the sensor plane.

Coming with user-interchangeable LPL, PL, and EF lens mounts, the Gnosis lenses will cost $5,389 per piece.

Only a few days ago, the Chinese cinema lens manufacturer DZOFILM expanded its Vespid cine prime series with 21mm and 40mm additions. Furthermore, DZOFILM now runs a bundle sale on most of its products until August 18.DZOFILM Gnosis Macro Cine Lenses Released

DZOFILM announces three new cine prime lenses with a focus on macro capabilities. Let’s take a look at the new DZOFILM Gnosis 32mm, 65mm, and 90mm T2.8 lenses.

Just like DZOFILM’s Vespid primes, the new Gnosis macro cine prime lenses also cover large format image sensors, including VistaVision size. In fact, the image circle produced by these lenses has a diameter of 46.5mm, so that is enough even for the ARRI ALEXA LF in open gate mode, for example.DZOFILM Gnosis Macro Cine Lenses Released

The focus of these new primes is the macro capability which ranges from 1:1 to 1.5:1 and goes hand in hand with the close focus values. The lenses come in three focal lengths:

  • 32mm T2.8, maximum magnification ratio – 1.00x, close focus (from sensor plane) – 167mm (6.6″)
  • 65mm T2.8, maximum magnification ratio – 1.33x, close focus (from sensor plane) – 237mm (9.36″)
  • 90mm T2.8, maximum magnification ratio – 1.50x, close focus (from sensor plane) – 258mm (10.2″)

All lenses can, of course, focus to infinity. They can therefore be used for a variety of “non-macro” shots, too. The focus throw of the manual geared focus ring is the same for all three lenses at 300°. There are either imperial or metric distance markings on the lens body.

The 16-bladed aperture is available between T2.8 and T22, and can be changed smoothly via the geared iris ring. The iris ring rotation angle is 55° for the 32mm lens, 67° for the 65mm, and 68° for the 90mm lens.

When it comes to optical structures, both the 32mm and 90mm lenses feature 11 elements in 9 groups, whereas the 65mm has 11 elements in 8 groups. The good news is that all three lenses feature the same dimensions: they are 112mm long and sport a standard 114mm front diameter.

The lenses are made out of aluminum alloy and their weight ranges between 1280g and 1460g per piece, depending on the focal length and used lens mount. The Gnosis macro lenses come with an ARRI LPL mount, while this is user-interchangeable to ARRI PL or Canon EF. The lenses come with the necessary lens mount elements and shims.DZOFILM Gnosis Macro Cine Lenses Released
