Apple has recently released an update for its video editing software, Final Cut Pro, bringing it to version 10.8.
This latest version incorporates the power of the Neural Engine found in Apple silicon chips and introduces several new AI-driven features and tools for video organization.
Optimized Media Processing
Final Cut Pro 10.8 is designed to streamline the video editing process, particularly in enhancing colors, balancing, contrast, and brightness efficiently across various media types including SDR, HDR, RAW, and Log-encoded footage.
New Slow Motion Technology
Among the notable additions is the Smooth Slo-Mo feature, which generates and blends frames to create smooth slow-motion effects. This feature aims to enhance the quality of slow-motion videos significantly.
Improved Customization and Organization
Users can now assign custom names to color corrections and video effects within the inspector for easier identification. These effects can also be transferred directly from the inspector to other clips either in the timeline or viewer. Additionally, the timeline index has been updated to support searches for clips with missing media or effects and includes detailed information like reel, scene, and camera angle.
Availability and Pricing
Despite these additions, some users might find the update less substantial than expected. However, Apple has committed to further investing in AI, indicating more significant updates could be forthcoming. Final Cut Pro 10.8 is available as a free update for current users, while new users can purchase it for $299.99 USD from the Mac App Store. A 90-day free trial is also available for new users.
