Apple has announced the release of new versions of Final Cut Pro, including Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 and Final Cut Pro for Mac 10.8.
These updates introduce new AI features aimed at enhancing workflow efficiency and performance.
Final Cut Pro for Mac 10.8
Final Cut Pro 10.8 for Mac now incorporates significant updates powered by Apple’s Neural Engine in Apple silicon. Key AI-driven features include “Enhance Light and Color,” which automatically adjusts video color, and “Smooth Slo-Mo,” which blends video frames to improve slow-motion quality.
Additionally, organizational tools for post-production workflows have been improved. Users can now assign custom names to color corrections and effects in the inspector, enjoy enhanced clip search functionality in the timeline index, and perform text-based searches with detailed information like reel, scene, and camera angle.
Final Cut Pro for iPad 2
Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 introduces support for external projects, allowing users to create or open projects without using internal storage. This feature requires iPadOS 17.5 or later. The new version also leverages the M4 chip for up to twice the rendering speed and supports up to four times more streams of ProRes RAW compared to the M1.
Additionally, a new Live Multicam feature allows users to connect and preview up to four cameras wirelessly within a single interface. Filmmakers can use iPhone and iPad devices to gain a director’s view of each camera and manually control settings using the new Final Cut Camera app. This app supports manual focus, shutter speed, ISO adjustments, and can function as a standalone recording app on iPhone Xs and later running iOS 17.4 or later, and iPad models running iPadOS 17.4 or later.
The update also integrates with the new Apple Pencil Pro, utilizing barrel roll for more control over the Live Drawing tool and a squeeze gesture to quickly access brushes and settings.
Price and Availability
These new versions are available as free updates for current users. For new users, Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 is available in the App Store for $4.99 per month or $49 per year, while Final Cut Pro for Mac 10.8 is available on the Mac App Store for $299.99.
