Frame.io: Real-Time Logging (RTL) for Workflow Efficiency
Pax: Frame.io has introduced Real-Time Logging (RTL), a new feature designed to streamline camera-to-cloud workflows. RTL allows users to communicate their observations about captured footage in real-time by pressing a button. Philip, what are your thoughts on this? How does this affect the industry?
Philip: Frame.io is really branching out. Initially, it was sort of review and approval, and now they’ve become a little more portfolio-like in their offerings. This is just an additional tool to help speed up that process. For those who aren’t familiar with Frame.io, camera-to-cloud means I want to shoot and start editing immediately. Typically, what happens is I shoot, it gets uploaded to the cloud, and then an individual goes in and makes comments on what’s good, what’s not good, and updates like that. This workflow now allows that user on set to start adding those comments into the clip, referred to as metadata, so that as soon as it hits the cloud, the information about whether it was a good take or not is already there. This will speed up the process, making Frame.io more valuable to the end user and what they’re able to do with the platform. I’m excited to see things like this come alive. There are other things I think they can add, so it’s good for the industry overall.
