Freefly Movi Firmware 2.3 “Power Surge” – A New Firmware Release

Freefly’s Movi Firmware 2.3, known as “Power Surge,” is now officially released for all Movi Pro and Carbon users, and it’s a free update.

This update brings significant improvements:

  1. Performance Upgrade: Movi Pro users can expect a 50% boost in performance. This translates to higher top speeds, improved camera control, and the resolution of several bugs for Pro, XL, and Carbon models.
  2. Maniac Mode 2.0: This feature offers increased time at peak torque on all three motors, with quicker recovery between shots. It’s particularly useful for high-speed applications or when dealing with heavy payloads. The motor temperature estimator has been enhanced to sustain maximum torque longer while protecting the motors. Recovery time after exceeding thermal thresholds has been reduced.
  3. 20% More Power for Movi Carbon: Movi Carbon users will experience a 20% increase in peak torque and quicker recovery between shots. This enhancement allows for increased stability and speed.
  4. Camera Controls: Users of Movi Pro, XL, and Carbon can now control certain cameras through the Movi Controller’s On-Screen Display. Supported cameras include Freefly Ember, Panasonic BGH1 with the Entire Air Commander, and Panasonic BS1H with the Entire Air Commander. Make sure to update your Movi and controller firmware as well as the AIR Commander firmware if necessary.
  5. Tuning Update for Movi Carbon BG1H and BGH1: The tuning for these models has been updated to enhance performance. After the update, you can reset your Movi Carbon to default settings for optimal performance.
  6. Additional Improvements: The update includes bug fixes, such as addressing FRX disconnect issues. If the connection is lost, Movi will hold its position until you regain control within range. It also introduces ND filter control for Kippertie Revolva mounts, currently supported only on the upcoming Ember Carbon.

To update your Movi, follow these steps:

  • Download the Movi app on your iOS or Android device.
  • Use the Movi app to update your Movi device via Monitor > Updates.
  • Ensure that your Movi Controller is updated to version 4.4.3 on Mac (Intel only) or Windows.

Remember to check your batteries’ capability to support the increased current draw, especially when using Maniac Mode or the updated Movi Carbon firmware. Using compatible batteries is essential for optimal performance and safety.

This firmware update brings exciting enhancements and improved performance to your Movi Pro and Carbon stabilizers, enhancing their capabilities for various shooting scenarios. Enjoy the new features and improvements! #MoviUpdate #PowerSurge
