FUJIFILM has recently announced that their groundbreaking Duvo-series PL-mount zoom lens, named the FUJINON Duvo HZK24-300mm, is now up for pre-order, with shipping expected to commence by the end of March 2024.
The announcement of the FUJINON Duvo HZK24-300mm was made back in September 2023, marking it as the inaugural Duvo series “portable” zoom lens. This release follows the October 2022 debut of the larger HZK 25-1000mm F/2.8-5.0 PL-mount cinema box lens. Conversations at IBC 2023 with Makoto Oishi from FUJINON offered insights into the development of the Duvo HZK24-300mm and hinted at the forthcoming smaller HZK14-100mm model.
Key Specifications of the FUJINON Duvo HZK24-300mm
This lens stands out for its versatility and high performance, offering key features such as:
Compatibility with both Super35 and Full-Frame sensors, featuring a 1.5x expander that adjusts the focal length to 36-450mm for Super35 sensors.
A consistent maximum aperture of T2.9 across the zoom range.
Incorporation of a PL mount compatible with the ZEISS eXtended Data system, facilitating the recording of lens metadata for post-production.
A manageable weight of 2.9kg (6.5 lbs) and a length of 26.9cm (10.6 inches).
Standard 114mm front diameter for compatibility with industry-standard matte boxes, and 0.8-pitch gears on the focus, iris, and zoom rings for use with FIZ systems.
A minimum focusing distance of 88cm (34.6 inches), making it unsuitable for everyday use but invaluable for wildlife, documentary, and event filming.
Pricing and Market Availability
Available for pre-order at $31,999, the FUJINON Duvo HZK24-300mm is aimed predominantly at rental houses rather than individual owners, considering its niche market positioning and premium pricing. The lens promises to be a significant addition to the filmmaking and broadcasting industries, offering unparalleled versatility and quality.
