FUJIFILM has introduced the new FUJINON XF16-50mm f/2.8-4.8 R LM WR lens, designed for the X-mount APS-C system.
This lens combines a versatile range (24-76mm full-frame equivalent) with a compact form factor and lightweight design.
Key Features
The lens features a weather-resistant design and internal zoom mechanism, making it suitable for various shooting conditions. It has a fast autofocus system, a 58mm front filter thread, and a minimum focusing distance of 24cm/9.4in across the focal range.

- Aperture Range: The XF16-50mm lens offers a variable aperture from f/2.8 at the wide end to f/4.8 at the telephoto end, with a maximum aperture of f/22. It features 9 rounded diaphragm blades to create a pleasing bokeh effect.
- Size and Weight: Weighing 240g/8.5oz, the lens has a diameter of 65mm and a length of 71.4mm/2.8in. FUJIFILM claims this is the lightest zoom lens in the XF series.
- Optical Structure: The lens construction includes 11 elements in 9 groups, with 3 aspherical lenses and 3 extra-low dispersion (ED) lenses. This design aims to suppress chromatic aberration and maintain high-resolution performance throughout the zoom range.
- Weather Resistance: The lens features weather sealing in 13 areas of the barrel and can withstand temperatures as low as -10°C (14°F). The internal zoom and focusing mechanisms ensure the lens does not extend during use.
- Autofocus System: Powered by a linear motor, the autofocus system provides fast and accurate focusing, with FUJIFILM claiming speeds as fast as 0.015 seconds.
- Stabilization: The lens lacks optical image stabilization (OIS), so it is best used with FUJIFILM camera bodies that have in-body image stabilization (IBIS). Most new X-mount cameras are equipped with this feature.
Pricing and Availability
The FUJINON XF16-50mm f/2.8-4.8 R LM WR lens will be available in June 2024, with a suggested retail price of $699.95. FUJIFILM will also offer the lens in kits with selected X-mount cameras, which include IBIS to compensate for the lack of OIS in the lens:
