GatesAir, under the ownership of Thomson Broadcast, continues to enhance its Flexiva GX transmitter series by introducing several models designed to meet popular power requirements from broadcasters globally.
At the NAB Show 2024, the company is set to launch the Flexiva GX2K, a model that offers 2000 watts (2 kW) of analog FM broadcasting capacity housed within a 2RU frame. This event will also serve as the North American introduction for the GX50 (50 watts), GX1K (1 kW), and GX3K (3 kW) models, which were first presented at the IBC2023 show in September.
Technical Advancements and Efficiency
The GX2K model underscores the Flexiva GX series’ emphasis on providing broadcasters with a favorable power-to-size ratio across its six power levels, including the more potent 5 kW and 10 kW options. This achievement is made possible through the utilization of the latest LDMOS technology, enabling the transmitters to offer significant power density and efficiency within a minimized space. Achieving up to 76 percent efficiency, these advancements are attributed to GatesAir’s third-generation PowerSmart high-efficiency transmitter architecture.
Dedicated to High Efficiency Across the Board
According to Ted Lantz, the Vice President of Product Line Management at GatesAir, the engineering team has ensured that all six models of the GX transmitters maintain optimal efficiency, even at lower power levels. He also mentioned that GatesAir plans to continue developing new models based on customer feedback and market needs.
Enhanced User Interface and Connectivity Options
The NAB Show will introduce attendees to the improved graphical user interface (GUI) available on all GX models, which now includes integrated audio playback and playlist management features. Additional enhancements include the option to add GPS receivers for single-frequency network (SFN) functionality and the incorporation of GatesAir’s Intraplex IP Link 100e (IPL-100e) module. The IPL-100e module allows for direct IP-based connectivity for FM audio and data broadcasting from the studio, reducing the need for additional rack space in facilities with limited availability. Furthermore, it supports an optional integrated ten-band audio processing software, offering cost savings on external equipment.
Global Availability and Network Flexibility
The Flexiva GX series is marketed worldwide and can be tailored for large-scale national or regional FM single-frequency network (SFN) implementations. These transmitters are also capable of supporting N+1 configurations, which provides significant flexibility and reliability for national network operators in building their transmission infrastructures.
Additional Showcases at NAB Show 2024
Beyond the Flexiva GX family, GatesAir will display its low-power Flexiva FAX air-cooled transmitters and the FMXi 4g, an integrated HD Radio solution, at the NAB Show 2024, scheduled from April 14-17 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. GatesAir will be located at Booth W2730.
