GatesAir: New Intraplex Software Debut

GatesAir, a notable player in broadcast technology, has announced an upcoming software update for its Intraplex systems.

This update introduces enhanced local advertising management features through its Audio over IP and cloud networking solutions. The enhanced features use precise metadata triggers to streamline local ad insertions, making it an attractive option for broadcasters considering a move from satellite to cloud-based audio transport systems.

Demonstration at NAB Show 2024

The company plans to showcase this new software at the NAB Show 2024 in Las Vegas. The demonstration is scheduled for next week, and GatesAir will be located at booth W2730. The software is set to be available in June.

Supported Platforms

The update will be compatible with the Intraplex Ascent cloud platform and the IP Link 100c, 100e, and 100n Audio over IP codec solutions. The Ascent platform was introduced in 2019 to help reduce the costs associated with multi-channel audio distribution and has been designed to support large-scale, IT-friendly network architectures.

Operational Benefits

The software facilitates the automatic activation of local advertisements at specific times without the need for manual intervention at affiliate locations. This feature is expected to be particularly beneficial for networks currently using satellite systems, which have been facing challenges such as reduced capacity and increased costs due to the C-Band satellite repack.

Comments from GatesAir’s VP of Engineering

Keyur Parikh, the Vice President of Engineering at GatesAir, commented on the advantages of the Ascent platform. He highlighted its capability to handle large network demands with high availability and scalability, which are crucial for networks transitioning from satellite-based setups.

New Hardware and Expanded Applications

GatesAir also continues to expand its Intraplex IP Link codec solutions. The second generation, started in 2020, includes the North American introduction of the IP Link 100n, a hardware codec designed for various Audio over IP networking applications including radio and streaming services. This codec supports SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) and includes Dynamic Stream Splicing technology to enhance network reliability.

Broader Industry Application

Looking beyond traditional broadcasting, GatesAir is set to explore wider audio networking applications with the new software. These include delivering live audio streams and scheduled playlists to businesses in the retail and hospitality sectors, extending the Intraplex brand into new markets.
