HAND (Human & Digital) is presenting its global Talent Identifier framework and registry at IBC 2024.
HAND’s Talent ID is an interoperable tool designed to address challenges in talent identity automation and protect against unauthorized AI-based deepfakes. It persistently identifies legitimate, consent-based digital replicas, ensuring talent rights are protected.
Industries Served
The framework is designed for talent identification in various cultural industries, including entertainment, sports, fashion, music, news, and gaming. HAND’s technology is available as a SaaS platform with an API subscription model and a free Web UI for limited Talent ID searches.
Functionality
HAND’s Talent ID serves as a tracking beacon for talent, automating the identification, verification, origin, and authenticity of talent-related assets in audiovisual works. This helps content owners and providers streamline the management of talent residuals, royalties, and participations. It ensures the authenticity of media content and facilitates efficient compensation for talent.
Statements from Leadership
Will Kreth, CEO and Founder of HAND, stated that HAND Talent ID addresses the need to protect talent rights and prevent unauthorized use of real, digital, or fictional characters. The technology maintains content integrity throughout its lifecycle. Kreth also highlighted that HAND’s solution responds to media companies’ frustrations with manual processes for talent attribution and compensation, potentially creating new revenue opportunities.
IBC 2024 Accelerator Media Innovation Programme
At IBC 2024, HAND will lead an Accelerator Media Innovation Programme project: “Digital Replicas and Talent ID: Provenance, Verification, and New Automated Workflows.” This project, supported by Paramount Global, SMPTE, Movie Labs, and other participants, will demonstrate the creation and secure tracking of a digital replica of a notable Hollywood actor. The aim is to ensure that the rights and permissions of the talent are respected and enforced.
Participation in Disinformation Project
HAND is also involved in another Accelerator project, “Design Your Weapons in the Fight Against Disinformation,” championed by BBC and Paramount Global. Participants include EBU, TV2, ITN, and others. This challenge will explore deepfake detection tools, media provenance signals, and aims to foster industry collaboration and information sharing.
