Hitachi Kokusai’s Versatile Cameras Enhance Maryland Public Television’s New Studio

Hitachi Kokusai recently completed a significant delivery of its newly introduced SK-UHD7000-S2 broadcast cameras to Maryland Public Television.

This delivery was facilitated through Digital Video Group, a longstanding partner of Hitachi Kokusai, located in Ashland, Virginia. These cameras form a crucial part of the public broadcaster’s major upgrade to their production studio at the Owings Mills headquarters, located northwest of Baltimore.

Camera Specifications and Introduction
The SK-UHD7000-S2 camera was first unveiled at the NAB 2023 Show in April. It incorporates Hitachi Kokusai’s most recent advancements in HD and 4K camera technology. This model features 12G 4K acquisition, which can be activated with the purchase of a separate 4K camera license upgrade. Maryland Public Television plans to utilize the HD acquisition capabilities of the camera for now, but the option for 4K performance was a significant factor in their decision-making process.

Studio Upgrade and Technological Advancements
The new studio setup includes various technological enhancements like an expanded green screen and modernized lighting grids. Ed Jose, Account Manager for Digital Video Group, highlighted that these upgrades provide a solid foundation for transitioning to 4K production in the future. He emphasized the SK-UHD7000-S2’s outstanding performance and competitive pricing, noting that its superior HD quality is ideal for the broadcaster’s larger studio space.

Audience Engagement and Technology Integration
Jose also mentioned that the newly renovated studio space could accommodate a larger audience, enhancing the energy of both live and pre-recorded broadcasts. He pointed out the SK-UHD7000-S2 camera’s smooth integration with Ross Dashboard for control and monitoring as a notable advantage for the broadcaster.

Camera Design and Features
The SK-UHD7000-S2 is designed for quiet operation, producing images with remarkable depth and lifelike quality. It boasts an exceptional signal to noise ratio of over -62dB on every output. The camera features a one-piece body with a low center of gravity for easy shoulder use, along with an efficient cooling system for comfortable operation.

Future-Proofing and Customer Benefits
Furthermore, the SK-UHD7000-S2’s upgrade license will incorporate future 4K technologies developed by Hitachi Kokusai. This ensures that clients like Maryland Public Television will continually benefit from the latest features upon upgrading. Kenneth Cyr, National Sales Manager at Hitachi Kokusai Electric America, Ltd., stated that the camera offers lower initial costs for potential 4K users, granting more creative freedom in lighting, exposure, and color control in modern studio settings. He also noted the camera’s advanced controls and dual workflow capacity as key factors in managing challenging shooting conditions.
