Ignite Digi Unveils Custom Rig for ACHTEL 9×7 Camera

Ignite Digi has developed a specialized rig for the ACHTEL 9×7 Digital Cinema Camera, as demonstrated in a detailed video by Tom Waugh. This development was highlighted alongside an in-depth interview with Pawel Achtel ACS, discussing the camera’s introduction.

The ACHTEL 9×7 Digital Cinema Camera stands out for its specialized applications in high-end production environments such as VFX, VR, Giant Screen, MSG Sphere, Flying Theatre, and IMAX Cinema. Unlike mainstream cameras from brands like Sony, ARRI, or RED, the 9×7 is engineered to substitute for an array of ten conventional cameras, offering unparalleled image sharpness in a compact form.

Technical Specifications

Featuring a Global Shutter and a 4:3 aspect ratio, the camera’s sensor houses 65 million photo-sites, supporting 16-bit RAW footage at speeds up to 11 GB/s—significantly outpacing the data throughput of other high-end digital cinema cameras. This design allows for the capture of uncompressed footage, ensuring no detail loss and maintaining smooth color and luminance transitions.

Unique Design Philosophy

The 9×7 camera emphasizes minimal in-camera processing, focusing on capturing and transferring raw sensor data directly to storage with minimal delay. This approach necessitates a high-capacity data transfer system, surpassing current standards like Thunderbolt 3. The aim is to maintain the highest possible image fidelity by avoiding the compression and processing typically applied in digital cinematography.
