Insta360 Unveils Ace Pro and Ace Action Cameras

Insta360 introduces the Ace and Ace Pro action cameras, featuring advanced technology and full 8K resolution capabilities.

Insta360 has announced the launch of two new action cameras, the Ace and the Ace Pro, marking the company’s major stride into the action camera market. Known for its 360 cameras and the tiny GO series, Insta360’s latest offerings represent its first genuine attempt to compete with established brands like GoPro in the one-piece action camera style.

The Ace Pro, priced at $449.99, stands as the premium model in the lineup. It boasts a 5nm process AI chip, acclaimed by Insta360 for its exceptional low light performance and HDR contrast handling. Key features include a main 16mm (35mm equivalent) lens developed in collaboration with Leica, a 48MP 1/1.3″ CMOS sensor, and a sizable 2.4″ rear LCD screen that flips. This model is capable of 24p 8K video recording and up to 120fps in 16:9 4K modes.

The Ace Pro also emphasizes AI technology, with the chip enhancing low noise in low light footage in “Pure Video” mode and providing a ‘lossless’ digital 2x zoom function. In frame rates of 30p and lower, it automatically engages a dynamic HDR mode. A notable feature is its ability to take high-resolution photos simultaneously while recording video, utilizing the full resolution of the chip. Additionally, the Ace Pro offers fast charging, achieving an 80% charge in 22 minutes, with a full charge in about 46 minutes.

The Ace, priced at $379.99, caters to more budget-conscious users. It features a slightly smaller 1/2″ CMOS sensor and records up to 6K resolution. Unlike the Ace Pro, it lacks the Leica-designed lens and fast charging capability.

Both cameras are waterproof up to 10 meters without a case and record using either H.264 or H.265 codecs at up to 170Mbps. They feature a new magnetic clip mount system, potentially surpassing DJI’s system in functionality.

The cameras offer flexible video modes, including a Freeframe video mode allowing post-recording stabilization and FOV adjustment, with the limitation of throttling recorded resolution to 4K. Insta360’s AI features are highlighted in these cameras, including gesture-based recording control and editing features in the mobile app.

With the action camera market becoming increasingly competitive, the Ace Pro and Ace position themselves as strong contenders against brands like DJI and GoPro. The new cameras promise to offer users advanced technology and versatile features for a variety of action-packed scenarios. They are available worldwide now, with the Ace Pro at $449.99 and the Ace at $379.99.
