Kron Technologies, a Canadian company specializing in high-speed cameras, has recently unveiled two innovative models: the Chronos 4K12 and Chronos Q12. These cameras mark a significant expansion in Kron’s product lineup, introducing advanced high-speed capabilities.
The Chronos 4K12 is particularly notable for its ability to capture 4K slow-motion footage at speeds exceeding 1000 frames per second (fps), with the potential to reach a staggering 29,002 fps at lower resolutions. On the other hand, the Chronos Q12 excels in HD slow-motion video, recording at approximately 4,900 fps, and can achieve a maximum of 29,411 fps in reduced resolution settings.
Priced starting from $4,500, the Chronos range also includes the more basic Chronos 1.4 model, capable of shooting up to 40,413 fps at a resolution of 320 x 96. These cameras offer several key features:
Choice of RAW or Compressed Formats: Users can opt for raw files for detailed post-production work or choose compressed formats for better storage efficiency and workflow ease.
Adjustable Bit Depth: The Chronos 4K12 offers 8, 10, and 12-bit modes, while the Chronos Q12 has 8 and 12-bit modes, providing more flexibility in frame rates and saving speeds.
Versatile Lens Mount Compatibility: Supports various lens mounts like C-mount, E-mount, F-mount, EF-mount, and MFT-mount, allowing for easy adaptation to different shooting conditions and lens preferences.
Easy-to-Use Interface: The camera’s operation is simplified with an intuitive interface, featuring user-friendly menus and navigation.
Compact, Durable Design with Touchscreen Display: The cameras come with a 5-inch touchscreen for easy control and monitoring and are built to be both portable and sturdy, suitable for different shooting environments.
The first set of 110 Chronos 4K12 units is expected to ship in February 2024, with a second batch in April 2024. Pricing for these models begins at $14,495 for the 64GB version and $15,995 for the 128GB version, the latter offering up to 11.8 seconds of recording time at full resolution.
For the Chronos Q12, the initial batch of 40 units is slated for shipment in March 2024, followed by a second batch in May 2024.
