Laowa Launches Affordable Anamorphic Zoom Lenses on Indiegogo

Laowa has initiated an Indiegogo campaign to unveil its new product line, the Nanomorph ZOOM kit.

This kit includes two innovative anamorphic zoom lenses designed for Super35 sensors, specifically a 28-55mm and a 50-100mm lens. Early subscribers to the campaign are entitled to a 30% discount on the first batch of lenses, which are scheduled to start shipping on March 1st.

Background and Product Overview

Known for producing quality lenses at competitive prices, Laowa has introduced another promising product to its lineup. Following the release of their Ranger Lite zooms, the company has now focused on the anamorphic market with the Nanomorph ZOOM lenses. These lenses aim to provide filmmakers with versatile shooting options without compromising on quality or budget.

Key Features of the Nanomorph ZOOM Lenses

The Nanomorph ZOOM lenses are touted as the most cost-effective and compact anamorphic zoom options available for Super35 sensors, with each lens weighing approximately 3.31 lbs (1.5kg). The kit comprises two lenses with PL mounts, offering focal lengths of 28-55mm and 50-100mm and a consistent aperture of T2.9 across the zoom range. This combination of features makes them particularly suitable for documentary production, offering a broad spectrum of focal lengths.

Laowa emphasizes that these lenses exhibit minimal distortion and chromatic aberration. Each lens provides a 1.5X anamorphic squeeze, which can be enhanced to a 2X squeeze using Laowa’s 1.33x Front Anamorphic Adapter. Additionally, the lenses are equipped to produce amber, blue, and silver lens flares, catering to filmmakers who seek to create specific visual effects in their work.
