Lawo has partnered with SMPTE and several industry organizations to create the SMPTE ST 2110 Practical Lab, a hands-on training program designed to support the transition from SDI to IP-based media workflows.
The SMPTE ST 2110 standards define the transport of professional media—uncompressed video, audio and ancillary data—across IP networks. As more broadcasters adopt IP infrastructures, understanding ST 2110 workflows has become an essential requirement for engineers, system integrators and technical managers.
Practical Lab Structure
The Practical Lab is located at Lawo’s headquarters in Rastatt, Germany. Participants gain experience working with live-production IP networks, including system design, synchronization and troubleshooting.
Part of SMPTE’s Education Pathway
The program extends SMPTE’s broader educational curriculum, which includes:
-
Introduction to SMPTE ST 2110 (self-paced, ongoing enrollment through 2026)
-
Understanding SMPTE ST 2110 (virtual instructor-led course focused on detailed technical instruction)
-
SMPTE ST 2110 Boot Camp (instructor-led intensive session scheduled for January)
Participants who complete these courses can apply their training to Lawo’s solutions such as the A__mic8 audio stagebox, .edge SDI/IP gateway, VSM, the HOME management platform and HOME Apps.
Key Dates
-
Understanding SMPTE ST 2110 (Virtual): 2–18 December
-
SMPTE ST 2110 Boot Camp: 12 January 2026 to 30 April 2026
-
Practical Lab: Scheduled after the Boot Camp or ST 2110 course, with a remote 1-day self-paced hands-on session
Statement from Lawo
