Leica has released Firmware Update 4.0.0 for the SL3 and SL3-S cameras. The update adds Open Gate recording options, a direct Camera-to-Cloud connection to Adobe Frame.io, autofocus improvements, and multiple system refinements.
The SL3 and SL3-S now support Open Gate recording in 4:3 and 3:2 aspect ratios. Recording is available in 5.8K resolution at up to 29.97p using 4:2:0 10-bit at 200 Mbps. Additional lower-bitrate video formats were also added.
Anamorphic support
During playback, the cameras can de-squeeze footage recorded with anamorphic lenses. Supported de-squeeze factors range from 1.25x to 2.0x.
Camera-to-Cloud integration
A direct WLAN-based Camera-to-Cloud connection to Adobe Frame.io is now available. Photos and proxy video files can be uploaded directly from the camera. Frame.io settings are managed within the Connectivity menu alongside Leica FOTOS.
Autofocus updates
The tracking algorithm now dynamically adjusts focus field size and shape during subject tracking. AI-based detection improves autofocus on human eyes, faces, and bodies, as well as animals including birds, dogs, cats, wolves, and big cats. The AF menu structure was simplified and reorganized.
Interface and monitoring changes
The Leica Looks menu now includes an Intensity adjustment. Monitor refresh rate options of 30 fps and 60 fps are available, with 30 fps reducing power consumption. A new Battery Condition menu displays overall battery health.
System behavior and performance
Startup time after extended inactivity was reduced. Autofocus lock is now maintained when switching from photo to video recording. File Format and Compression settings were combined into a single menu item. Display of inactive settings was improved.
Flash and battery behavior
Auto ISO display behavior with flash was revised for accuracy. The default flash mode is now set to On. Battery-related warnings were updated, including clearer notifications for reduced battery performance and BP-SCL4 limitations.
