LiveU has reported its most successful deployment to date at the 2024 Summer Games in Paris.
The company deployed over 1,000 portable units, serving broadcasters from 62 countries, and delivering more than 70,000 hours of live broadcasts. This event has set new benchmarks for the use of LiveU technology in global news and sports coverage.
Significant Data Transmission Increase
The deployment featured LiveU’s IP-video EcoSystem, which served as the foundation for live streaming during the Games. This represented a nearly 40% increase in usage compared to the Tokyo Games. In total, 62TB of data was transmitted, underscoring the growing trust broadcasters place in LiveU’s IP-video technology.
Wide Coverage Across Paris Using IP 5G Bonding Technology
LiveU’s IP 5G bonding technology, paired with optimized data plans, enabled extensive live coverage from various locations, including inside competition venues, boats on the Seine during the Opening Ceremony, the athlete village, and the streets of Paris. Over 50% of the LiveU units utilized the local 5G network infrastructure, achieving maximum performance and bandwidth efficiency.
Cloud Solutions Enhance Production Workflow
LiveU’s cloud solutions were pivotal, with the LiveU Matrix cloud IP distribution platform allowing around 800 live feeds to be shared in real-time. Additional solutions included LiveU Ingest, which automated recording and sped up the production workflow, and remote production tools like Video Return, ensuring high-quality live broadcasts between crew and control rooms.
Sustainability Through Remote Production
The integration of a remote production workflow with LiveU’s solutions promoted greater sustainability by reducing the need for travel and the transport of heavy equipment.
Customer Feedback on LiveU Performance
Several broadcasters shared their positive experiences using LiveU during the Games. TV Jamaica’s presenter, Jordan Anthony Forte, highlighted the ease of quickly uplinking live content back to Jamaica. BGTV World Press News producer Alejandro Garlick emphasized the compact size and reliability of LiveU units, which allowed live coverage from any location. Freelance camera operator Jean-Jacques Feron and TV camera operator Philippe Marion also praised the user-friendly nature and reliability of LiveU devices.
On-Site Support and Future Plans
LiveU provided extensive on-site support with a team of over 10 multilingual engineers and event managers stationed across three locations in Paris. This ensured quick response times and hands-on assistance for customers, complemented by remote support available around the clock.
As the Summer Games conclude, LiveU will continue to support its customers during the upcoming Para Summer Games, maintaining the same level of service for live coverage.
