BT Media & Broadcast Joins Forces with LiveU to Enhance Live Broadcasting Capabilities

LiveU, a prominent provider in live video solutions, has partnered with BT Media & Broadcast to enhance live content sharing for broadcasters.

This collaboration integrates LiveU’s Reliable Transport (LRT™) protocol with BT’s extensive content and distribution network. The fusion of Internet Protocol (IP) and Serial Digital Interface (SDI) technologies promises a streamlined experience for users.

Expanding Content Transmission at BT Tower:
BT Media & Broadcast is renowned for transmitting up to 24,000 hours of content daily through its International Media Centre at BT Tower, London. Specializing in uncompressed SDI domain transmissions, from standard definition to 4K, it serves as a vital link for UK broadcast services and connects the global production community.

Advanced Technology Integration:
BT has incorporated LiveU’s advanced receiving and decoding technology. This move enables direct reception and transmission capabilities. The partnership identifies various applications, such as enabling LiveU users to connect with clients who don’t use LiveU technology, and providing supplementary resilience to traditional fixed links. This collaboration allows content consumers worldwide to access an affordable, on-demand service, and tap into a vast repository of English language content.

Simplified Access for Smaller Broadcasters:
BT Media & Broadcast now offers simplified access to live content, both in SDI and LRT™ formats. This service is particularly beneficial for smaller broadcasters or channels lacking a master control room or live gallery but desiring live content to engage viewers more effectively.

Comments from Industry Leaders:
Matthew Stringer, UK Sales Director at LiveU, remarked on the significance of this alliance for the global broadcast community, emphasizing seamless content capture and connectivity. Dom Wrona, Head of Portfolio & GTM at BT Media & Broadcast, highlighted the collaboration’s potential in offering diverse content sharing opportunities, especially for ad hoc events. He also mentioned the capability for LiveU users to distribute content through BT’s network.

BT Media & Broadcast plans to incorporate the LiveU Matrix, a cutting-edge, IP cloud content sharing platform, into its services. Additionally, the company has acquired LU800 multi-camera field units, broadening in-field contribution options for clients. These units, available for hire, facilitate production in challenging locations and are crucial for extensive coverage of large-scale events, leveraging both private and public 5G networks for premium grade redundancy.
