For the Coronation, LiveU and Neutral Wireless offered a dependable solution for the BBC and other global media outlets.
At IBC2023, LiveU and Neutral Wireless will present their revolutionary private 5G collaboration, which was prominently used during the Coronation of HM King Charles III. This event marked a significant partnership between the BBC, LiveU, and Neutral Wireless, utilizing the world’s most extensive single-use private 5G standalone (SA) network. This ensured high-quality, uninterrupted live broadcasts.
LiveU is renowned for its state-of-the-art live IP-video bonded connectivity solutions, including private 5G (P5G). These solutions are designed for optimal performance in challenging network conditions, such as major news and sports events or areas lacking cellular reception.
They tackled the usual network congestion issues at large events by deploying a temporary Neutral Wireless private 5G network. This network allowed broadcasters to transmit live from various locations, including The Mall, stretching from Admiralty Arch to Buckingham Palace. The network’s scalability meant that additional LiveU portable encoders could be swiftly incorporated as needed.
On the day of the Coronation, Ofcom provided the spectrum through a Shared Access Licence, separate from public networks. Dr. Cameron Speirs, CEO of Neutral Wireless, praised the collaboration, emphasizing the network’s reliability and the ease with which broadcasters could use it. They simply inserted a Neutral Wireless 5G SIM card into their LiveU devices and broadcasted without bandwidth concerns.
Dan Pisarski, CTO of LiveU, highlighted the solution’s reliability and scalability, especially for crowded events. He commended the Neutral Wireless team for their expertise and LiveU’s support team for ensuring smooth operations. He also mentioned that 20 international news outlets used the private 5G service for their Coronation broadcasts, showcasing its efficiency.
LiveU’s connectivity suite also features innovative solutions like network slicing and Low Earth Orbit satellites, such as Starlink. These are part of the LiveU EcoSystem, covering contribution, production, and distribution.
The BBC, LiveU, and Neutral Wireless have been nominated for the IBC2023 Innovation Awards for their project on creating a 5G network for King Charles III’s coronation. The collaboration between LiveU and Neutral Wireless promises to offer reliable wireless live coverage for future major events with dedicated private 5G connectivity.
