LiveU’s IP-Video EcoSystem Powers Live Broadcasts at Pacific Games

The Pacific Games, held in the Solomon Islands, marked a significant advancement in live sports broadcasting.

The event utilized LiveU’s IP-video Ecosystem, selected for its affordability and flexibility. The technology, anchored by LiveU Reliable Transport (LRT™), enabled stable and high-quality live broadcasts across the Pacific Islands, Australia, and New Zealand. The LiveU team was actively involved, providing essential engineering and operational support throughout the games.

Building Connections Through Sports
The Pacific Games, established in 1963 and occurring every four years, aim to enhance relationships among the Pacific Island nations and neighboring countries. The 2023 event covered 24 sports, including archery, athletics, basketball, football, judo, and rugby. Unlike previous years where satellite transmission was used, the organizers opted for LiveU’s cost-effective and reliable IP distribution. LiveU Matrix’s managed service offered multiple feeds from various event locations.

Technical Innovations in Live Broadcasting
For the games, LiveU deployed its compact 5G LU300S encoders for direct transmission, along with LiveU Ingest for on-site cloud recording and rackmount LiveU Transceivers for uplinks and direct transmissions. Paul Vunituraga, the Broadcast Manager for the Pacific Games 2023, praised the technology for maintaining high-quality production despite challenging conditions.
