LNKcine, founded by Canadian camera assistant Jackson Harper, introduces its debut product, the LNK – a groundbreaking quick-release system for camera accessories that stands out for its unique gender-neutral design.
Harper, with 13 years of experience in the film industry, developed the LNK out of necessity during his work on the Netflix series “Riverdale.”
The Genesis of the LNK
The LNK quick-release system was conceptualized by Harper after encountering limitations with traditional gender-specific quick-release systems while working on “Riverdale.” The challenges of rapidly changing camera setups and the compatibility issues between different camera components led Harper to envision a more versatile solution. This led to the creation of the LNK, which features two identical halves, eliminating the conventional male and female components and allowing for seamless swapping and connecting.
Design and Development
The design process of the LNK involved several iterations and feedback from industry professionals. Initially facing challenges, Harper’s persistence paid off with a design that effectively addressed the needs of the film industry. Prototypes were produced by a local company, and after rigorous testing on the “Riverdale” set, the LNK proved to be a reliable and indispensable tool.
Key Features of the LNK Quick-Release System
The LNK system is characterized by its dual identical halves, each equipped with a through hole and a 3/8″-16 threaded hole, accompanied by adapters to transition from 3/8″ to 1/4″-20. The system also incorporates three anti-twist mechanisms: an 8-32 hole adjacent to the 3/8″-16 threaded hole, two small threaded holes for M1.6 screws compatible with ARRI anti-twist systems, and two female ARRI anti-twist holes on the threaded side. Security is a priority, with a dual-button release mechanism that ensures the device can support up to 63kg/140 lbs without the locking pins failing.
Additionally, Harper has hinted at an upcoming SmallHD adapter that will further expand the LNK’s compatibility and utility.
With the launch of the LNK in January 2023, LNKcine has introduced a versatile and innovative solution to the film industry, simplifying camera accessory management and enhancing on-set efficiency. The gender-neutral design of the LNK quick-release system represents a significant advancement in camera accessory technology, promising to become a staple in film production.
