Panasonic’s Most Compact Full-Frame Lens: LUMIX S 26mm F/8 for $197

Panasonic has released its most compact full-frame lens, the LUMIX S 26mm F/8. This manual focus lens with a fixed aperture is designed to replace the camera body cap while still allowing for quick image capture on the go. Here are the details of this new prime lens.

The LUMIX S 26mm F/8 lens is an L-mount lens compatible with full-frame cameras. Its dimensions are only 2.6 x 0.7 inches (67.1 x 18.1mm) and it weighs 2 ounces (58g). Apart from the lens elements, the entire body of the lens is made of plastic.

This lens is fully manual, with no autofocus and a fixed aperture of F/8. Its primary purpose is to replace the camera body cap, allowing users to grab their camera and shoot without needing to attach a separate lens.

Lens Design

According to Panasonic, the LUMIX S 26mm F/8 has an 80-degree field of view. The lens design includes five elements in five groups, with one UED lens element to reduce ghosting and flare.

The minimum focusing distance is 9.8 inches (24.9cm). It is important to note that this lens is not compatible with lens filters and lens caps.

Price and Availability

The Panasonic LUMIX S 26mm F/8 will be available by the end of June 2024, priced at $197/€213.
