Lumix Firmware Update Details for S1R2 and S12 Series

Lumix Firmware Update Details for S1R2 and S12 Series

A recent LUMIX Live session outlined updates included in the latest firmware for the S1R2, S12, and S12E cameras.

The session reviewed feature additions, performance changes, and answered user questions.

Thermal Management

The firmware includes revised thermal-control algorithms. The cameras now measure ambient and internal temperature more accurately to reduce overheating risks in demanding modes such as C4K120.

Lumix Flow App Version 1.4

The updated app adds Log monitoring with LUTs, multi-frame markers, and improved AF frame movement. The team also addressed reports of app crashes and suggested troubleshooting steps.

Autofocus Interface Options

New AF UI options allow disabling multi-frame display and changing the eye-detect marker from crosshairs to a box.

MP4 Lite Updates

A supplemental firmware fix (v1.3) resolves an intermittent MP4 Lite malfunction. MP4 Lite (3.8K at 30/25fps) is now available on S12 models for lighter open-gate recording useful for anamorphic or multi-format output.

Autofocus and Slow Shutter

AF support at slow shutter speeds remains unlikely due to technical limits related to live-view data.

Restoring Settings

After updating firmware, users are advised to reset the camera and then restore saved settings. All custom buttons, menus, and LUTs can be transferred across S12-series cameras.

Feature Availability Notes

• CineLike A2 remains exclusive to newer hardware such as S12 and GH7.
• Live Composite is not supported on S9 due to mechanical and readout requirements.
• MP4 Lite remains limited to 3.8K; users can downsample if they need 1080p or 2K.

App and Accessory Feedback

Anamorphic desqueeze support for Lumix Flow has been forwarded to engineering. Dummy batteries do not affect thermal behavior. USB-related crashes are attributed to non-compliant cables.

Service and Hardware Details

Factory restore is available only via menu options. Attempting service-mode access may void warranty. AF differences between G9 II and other PDAF models are tied to sensor characteristics, and some new S12 updates will not transfer to older cameras.

Additional Notes

• S9 retains thermal limits during HDMI live streaming.
• No information is available on a possible FC2500 successor.
• Sensor read times on S1R2 remain unchanged, as they depend on hardware.
