BCE launches Luxembourg’s first DAB+ multiplex

Broadcasting Center Europe (BCE) launched Luxembourg’s first DAB+ multiplex at its headquarters, with Elisabeth Margue, Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister for Media and Connectivity, and representatives from eleven radio stations present.

A new era for radio in Luxembourg

For decades, most radio stations in Luxembourg have broadcasted only on FM. With the FM band now saturated, new frequencies and services are limited. DAB+ solves this by allowing multiple radio services within a single digital multiplex, offering improved sound quality, more stations, stable mobile reception, and additional information like song titles, images, and live news.

BCE launches Luxembourg’s first DAB+ multiplexThe Service des médias, de la connectivité et de la politique numérique (SMC) launched a public call in August 2024 to select an operator for the national DAB+ multiplex. BCE was awarded a 10-year license on June 3rd, 2025, to deploy and operate Luxembourg’s DAB+ network.

Eleven radio services joined the first multiplex: Crooner Radio, Eldoradio, L’essentiel Radio, LOR’FM, Opus 100.7, Radio 100.7, Radio ARA, Radio Latina, RTL Deutschlands Hit-Radio, RTL Radio Lëtzebuerg, and RTL Today Radio.

Deploying Luxembourg’s DAB+ network

BCE completed the first phase within six months, deploying its in-house DAB+ encoding and multiplexing platform, new antennas, and transmitters at Dudelange, Hosingen, and Jardin Napoléon. All sites are linked via high-capacity IP connections for secure signal transmission. A 24/7 Network Operations Center (NOC) monitors the entire system for reliability.
