Magewell has introduced a new addition to its USB Capture family, the USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro, designed for capturing video sources at up to 4K resolution and 60 frames per second.

This new model will be showcased at the 2024 NAB Show New York on October 9-10 at the Javits Center, booth 753.

High-Quality AV Capture Without External Power

Magewell’s USB Capture devices allow users to capture high-quality audio and video signals directly to a computer via a USB connection. The new HDMI 4K Pro model enhances the existing 4K Plus model by utilizing 20Gbps USB transfer capabilities on compatible systems, enabling the capture of 4K video with higher frame rates and color precision.

Compatibility and Video Capture Capabilities

The USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro is designed to work with host computers that have a 20Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 interface, allowing for the capture of HDMI inputs up to 4096×2160 at 60fps with 4:4:4 chroma fidelity. The device is backward compatible with older USB interfaces, such as USB 3.2, USB 3.1, and USB 3.0, though capture capabilities will depend on the connection speed and the host system’s operating system.

Plug-and-Play Setup Across Multiple Platforms

The device is compatible with Windows®, Mac®, Linux®, and Chrome® operating systems, offering a driver-free setup and automatic detection of input signals. Software developers can access Magewell’s SDK to integrate the device’s features into their applications, including 10-bit High Dynamic Range (HDR) capture capabilities.

Additional Features and Utility Software

In addition to capturing video, the USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro supports embedded HDMI audio, analog audio input, and stereo headphone output. It includes HDMI loop-through for simultaneous output to a monitor or projector and uses FPGA-based video processing for deinterlacing, up/down conversion, and image control. The USB Capture Utility software allows users to configure capture settings, update firmware, and manage the device’s audio capabilities. The software also supports earlier models in the USB Capture family.
