Magewell introduces two new live media encoders from the Ultra Encode family

The Ultra Encode HDMI Plus and Ultra Encode SDI Plus can stream video in various protocols at the same time.

Magewell has recently announced the launch of two new additions to its Ultra Encode series of live media encoders, named Ultra Encode HDMI Plus and Ultra Encode SDI Plus. These devices are designed for various uses such as live streaming, remote production, and IP-based content distribution. They will be showcased at the upcoming ISE 2024 event in Barcelona, Spain, from January 30 to February 2.

These new models are now available for purchase through Magewell’s international network of authorized dealers. The Ultra Encode HDMI Plus and Ultra Encode SDI Plus encoders are noted for their ability to stream in multiple protocols simultaneously, along with features like file recording, support for NDI HX3, 4K encoding at 30 frames per second, Power over Ethernet (PoE) capabilities, and advanced live production functionalities.

James Liu, Magewell’s Vice President of Engineering, highlighted that while their existing Ultra Encode models and the Ultra Encode AIO are highly popular, there was demand for devices offering high bitrates, diverse formats, recording options, and multi-protocol streaming in a smaller, camera-mountable size. The new Ultra Encode Plus models are designed to fill this gap in their product line, catering to a broader range of applications.

The Ultra Encode HDMI Plus can handle up to 4096×2160 resolution at 30fps through its HDMI input, and the Ultra Encode SDI Plus offers up to 4K at 30fps encoding via a 6G-SDI input. Both models are versatile in supporting various encoding formats and technologies, including H.264, H.265 (HEVC), NDI HX2, NDI HX3, and multiple streaming protocols like RTMP, RTMPS, SRT, RTSP, RTP, HLS, and TVU’s ISSP.

These encoders allow video encoding at bitrates as high as 32Mbps (and up to 62Mbps for NDI HX3) and support encoding of up to eight audio channels in AAC format. They can handle two different encoding profiles concurrently, each with its own resolution, frame rate, and bitrate settings.

Users can easily stream to platforms like YouTube Live, Facebook Live, Twitch, Wowza Video, and custom targets using configurable presets. The Ultra Encode Plus models have the capability to stream to up to six destinations at the same time and can record input as files on internal, external USB-connected, or networked storage.

Designed for easy camera mounting, the Ultra Encode Plus models are compact and robust, with a metal chassis measuring 4.2 inches square and 1 inch in height. They feature integrated tally lights for indicating program or preview usage in NDI HX outputs during live production. These devices come with loop-through connections, line-level analog audio input and output, and can be powered either via PoE or an included power adapter. They also have built-in Wi-Fi and an RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet port.

For ease of use, the new encoders can be configured, monitored, and controlled through a web-based interface. They also support centralized remote management via Control Hub software. Additionally, manual control, scheduled streaming, and recording can be accessed through the web interface, and HTTP-based APIs are available for integration into third-party solutions.
