In the latest docuseries “Chopper Cops” from V1 Productions and SEE IT NOW Studios, which airs on CBS/Paramount+, a selection of cameras from Marshall Electronics was used to document the high-risk operations of police helicopters.

The cameras chosen for this series include eight CV506 Miniature Full-HD Cameras, two CV568 Miniature Global Cameras with Genlock, and two CV504 WP-All-Weather Micro Cameras.

Focus on Marion County Sheriff’s Department

The series provides a detailed look at the Marion County Sheriff’s Department helicopters, flown by a team of elite pilots referred to as Air One. Across ten half-hour episodes, the series highlights how these pilots use advanced infrared cameras and augmented-reality mapping to support ground units, aiding in suspect apprehension and search operations.

Compact Cameras Capture Action from Air and Ground

The production team needed cameras that could capture content from multiple perspectives, including helicopters and police cars, while being unobtrusive and space-efficient. According to W. Hulsey Smith, Founder and President of V1 Productions, the compact size and capabilities of Marshall cameras allowed for an immersive viewing experience without interfering with police operations. The cameras were used in various positions, such as inside deputies’ cars and helicopters, to capture footage from the dashboard and over-the-shoulder perspectives of pilots and Tactical Flight Officers (TFOs).

Synchronized Footage with the Marshall CV568 Camera

Marshall’s CV568 Miniature Global Camera with Genlock provided synchronized, high-definition footage of coordinated movements within both vehicles and helicopters. This camera, featuring a Sony global sensor with larger pixels and interchangeable lenses, enabled seamless point-of-view (POV) perspectives crucial for capturing the dynamic actions of police aviation.

Weatherproof Cameras Used in External Filming

For exterior shots, including footage of police cars and helicopters in motion, the Marshall CV504-WP cameras were employed. These cameras filmed from the exterior of vehicles, showing the movement of squad cars and helicopters flying over the city. The CV504-WP camera, built with a durable body and weatherproof design, delivered high-quality footage in challenging conditions.

Continued Use of Marshall Electronics in Productions

W. Hulsey Smith mentioned that Marshall Electronics’ cameras were essential for the production, ensuring the cameras did not interfere with real police work. The production team plans to continue using Marshall cameras for future projects to achieve unique filming perspectives.
