Martin Audio has unveiled the iK41, a new advanced 4-channel power amplifier, to expand its iKON series.
This amplifier integrates high power density with precise audio performance, modern DSP, and network control. It is specifically designed to be a dedicated controller amplifier for Martin Audio’s WPM optimized line arrays, TORUS 8 constant curvature loudspeakers, and provides multi-channel amplification for select Martin Audio loudspeakers.
Technical Specifications and Features
The iK41 delivers 1500 watts per channel into 4 ohms. It features high efficiency, which reduces the energy consumption from the mains supply while ensuring sufficient power reserves to maintain sound quality under demanding conditions. The amplifier supports system remote control and monitoring via Ethernet using Martin Audio’s VU-NET software application. It also includes a user-friendly front panel interface for local control of all features and offers Dante digital audio network inputs for digital audio distribution and control.
Integrated DSP and Protection Functions
The iK41 incorporates powerful DSP that provides numerous features to maximize the performance of select loudspeaker systems. Each output channel can handle up to 1000 FIR filter taps at 48kHz, which is crucial for implementing DISPLAY’s wide bandwidth optimization process in WPM line array systems. The amplifier also includes comprehensive protection functions to maintain safe operating conditions for both the amplifier and the loudspeakers. This includes a sophisticated loudspeaker limiter suite that incorporates peak, RMS, and excursion limiting, along with multiband limiting for passive 2-way systems.
Market Impact and Availability
Dom Harter, Managing Director of Martin Audio, highlighted the success of the iKON amplifiers and noted that the introduction of the less expensive iK41 model will facilitate more efficient installations of WPM, TORUS 8, and FlexPoint systems. He also mentioned that while rental partners are expected to continue using the iK42, some may find it beneficial to add the iK41 to their inventory for smaller events. The iK41 will be showcased at InfoComm 2024 in Las Vegas and will be available for global shipping starting in July.
