Matrox Debuts New NIC Cards

Matrox Video Releases New NIC Cards

Matrox Video has expanded its product line with the introduction of low-density versions of its DSX LE5 D25 LP and DSX LE6 D100 network interface controller (NIC) cards.

These new models are part of the company’s offerings in SMPTE ST 2110 cards, which are essential for the broadcast and professional audiovisual (Pro AV) industries’ transition to IP-based workflows.

Features and Capabilities

The new NIC cards support multi-channel video inputs and outputs across 10/25/100GbE networks. They are integrated with the comprehensive Matrox DSX software development kit (SDK), enabling manufacturers to create various IP-based applications. These applications can range from low-density HD, 3G, 4K, to 8K workflows, offering a cost-effective solution within a single SDK environment. The DSX LE5 D25 LP cards are set to be released in the third quarter of 2024, and the DSX LE6 D100 cards will follow in the fourth quarter.

Francesco Scartozzi
Company Commitment and SDK Advantages

Francesco Scartozzi, Vice President of Sales and Business Development for the Broadcast and Media Group at Matrox Video, emphasized the company’s commitment to the SMPTE ST 2110 standard. He highlighted that the new ST 2110 NIC cards, like their predecessors, utilize the robust DSX SDK, which simplifies the integration and management of ST 2110 solutions. This approach reduces engineering efforts and resources needed while handling video, audio, and ancillary data.

Design and Technical Specifications

The newly introduced NIC cards are designed as video-aware, commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) components that ensure interoperability and reliable performance around the clock. These cards are engineered to support the rigorous demands of broadcast and Pro AV equipment, offering scalability and flexibility required in IP infrastructures. They feature hardware-based Precision Time Protocol (PTP) for accurate synchronization and offload all ST 2110 packet processing from the CPU to minimize latency in multichannel HD, 4K, and 8K setups.

Entry-Level and High-Performance Options

The entry-level DSX LE5 D25 LP cards, designed for compact systems such as 1U, 2U, and 3U COTS, facilitate lower-density workflows of 1080i, 1080p, and UHD over 10/25 GbE interfaces. In contrast, the high-performance DSX LE6 D100 cards are equipped with dual 100 GbE interfaces and are capable of handling multiple 4K and 8K channels, ideal for high-demand media environments like broadcast and virtual production.

Development Tools and Support

The Matrox DSX SDK, compatible with both Windows and Linux, offers the stability and reliability needed for demanding broadcast and Pro AV operations. It supports a wide range of functions including file operations, memory management, and handling various file formats, codecs, and effects. The SDK also includes a prototyping tool that allows for the rapid simulation and testing of use cases without the need for extensive coding.
