Spain’s Mediapro has announced plans to open two new virtual production studios in Barcelona and Madrid.
The company will invest €3.5 million in the Barcelona production centre, which will feature a 500 m2 studio and 235 m2 of LED paneling and is due to open by the end of 2023. It will also include a green screen.
Mediapro also plans to open two further studios in New York and Miami, with the New York-based facility set to open its doors in Q3 2023.
It also plans to will expand its virtual production footprint to its production centers, including Bilbao, Valencia, Zaragoza, Brussels, Toronto, and Lisbon. Together, they span over 350,000 m2.
Announcing the move towards virtual production, the company cited research by Sony Pictures that found the new technology results in 76-80 per cent less CO2e emissions than one day of a conventional, on-location shoot.
