Middle Things released Middle Control 3 Pro, a macOS application enabling Sony camera control via Blackmagic Design ATEM switchers.
The software connects ATEM’s camera control protocol to Sony’s IP-based control system, allowing iris, ISO, focus, zoom, white balance, and color settings to be adjusted directly from ATEM interfaces.
Sony and ATEM Integration
The system requires Sony cameras, the ATEM switcher, and the Mac running the software to be on the same network. Middle Control converts ATEM commands into Sony’s protocol in real time over Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Supported controls include exposure, white balance, focus, zoom, and image adjustments when picture profiles are disabled. Remote recording and menu navigation are available on certain models.

Supported Cameras
Compatibility includes Sony mirrorless cameras such as A7 IV, A7S III, and ZV-1; cinema models including FX3, FX6, FX30, and Burano; and PTZ units like FR7 and BRC-AM7. Version 3.1.0 adds support for the HXR-NX800, ILX-LR1, and new Live View and MultiView functions across several cameras.

Live View and MultiView
The software provides a low-resolution preview for focus and monitoring. MultiView supports up to nine cameras and aligns camera labels with ATEM naming, showing tally status for program and preview.

Multi-Operator and VISCA
Middle Control 3 Pro supports multi-operator setups using dedicated USB joysticks per camera and includes a VISCA over IP server for third-party controllers. Integration with Bitfocus Companion enables deeper automation and menu control.
Free Version Updates
The free Middle Control 3 adds a virtual joystick, axis lock buttons, per-camera speed settings, and improved network performance for APCR hardware. New endpoint controls for DJI RS gimbals improve cable management.

Pricing
Middle Control 3 Pro costs €199 (excluding VAT) with all 3.x updates included. A 30-day trial is available. The base Middle Control 3 app remains free but requires the Pro license for Sony control, ATEM linking, MultiView, VISCA, and multi-operator functions.
