Millicom Launches High-Speed Fiber Broadband with Harmonic’s Platform

Millicom, operating under the TIGO® brand in Latin America, has initiated the deployment of XGS-PON fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) technology using Harmonic’s advanced cOS® broadband platform.

This initiative is an extension of Millicom’s ongoing strategy to utilize the cOS platform for delivering high-speed broadband services across its nine-country footprint in Latin America.

Fabio Mando, Millicom’s Chief Technology Officer, highlighted the benefits of integrating Harmonic’s fiber solution, emphasizing the provision of faster, more reliable broadband for both residential and enterprise customers. The adoption of Harmonic’s technology not only facilitates the management of fiber and cable networks but also enhances customer internet speeds and reduces the time required to introduce new broadband services.

Innovative Deployment Strategy

The integration of Harmonic’s Ripple hybrid fiber-cable nodes, equipped with the Jetty hardened switch and Fin SFP+ OLT modules, allows Millicom to upgrade existing infrastructure efficiently. This strategy supports the simultaneous provision of FTTH and DOCSIS services. The cOS Central platform offers advanced telemetry capabilities, granting Millicom valuable insights and recommendations to optimize network performance.
