Module 8 Tuner: Moment’s New Lens Adapter for Cinema-Quality Optics

Moment has unveiled a groundbreaking lens adapter, the Module 8 Tuner. This innovative product promises to transform any ordinary lens into a high-end cinema optic, rivaling those worth tens of thousands of dollars

What sets the Module 8 Tuner apart is its adjustability, offering unprecedented control to camera operators.

Collaboration with Industry Experts
The development of the Module 8 Tuner is a collaborative effort, featuring the expertise of Moment’s Technical Designer, Michael Thomas, and the renowned cinema optics designer, Ian Neil. Neil, a veteran in the field with 13 Academy Awards and over 50 patents, has dedicated decades to designing iconic cinema lenses. His latest endeavor, the Module 8 Tuner, is aimed at making the cinematic look accessible to all content creators.

Design Philosophy and Inspiration
Ian Neil’s extensive career spans 35 years, focusing on innovative cine lens designs used in thousands of films. The Module 8 Tuner is the culmination of his latest five-year project, drawing on his vast experience in modern optical engineering. This device aims to replicate the look and feel of vintage cinema lenses through a single lens adapter.

Technical Details and Models
The Module 8 Tuner, positioned between the digital camera and the lens, introduces optical aberrations, halos, and distortions characteristic of Neil’s iconic lenses. It comes in three variants, each inspired by a legendary cinematic lens. The Tuner L1 mimics the Super Baltar lens, the Tuner L2 is based on the Canon K35 cine prime, and the Tuner L3 Anamorphic adapter, dubbed “Retro–Scope,” emulates vintage anamorphic lenses from the 1970s.

Adjustability and Vari-Look Design
Each Module 8 Tuner offers a patent-pending Vari-Look design, allowing users to adjust the extent of halos, stigmatisms, and aberrations. This feature provides unparalleled flexibility, enabling operators to subtly enhance the image or apply the effects with full intensity, offering a wide range of visual aesthetics.
