MUTINY has recently unveiled a limited edition of their X/SIDE product for the RED KOMODO X camera, named the Paint Bucket Drop X/SIDE.
This new version is essentially a custom variant of the existing X/SIDE, distinguished primarily by its unique paint design. This release might catch the attention of those who appreciate customizing their camera setups.
X/SIDE IO for KOMODO X: An Overview
The X/SIDE is a specially designed IO cheese plate equipped with front-of-camera power distribution tailored for the KOMODO X camera. It has been engineered to comply with RED’s airflow standards, ensuring functionality even when all holes are in use. The X/SIDE is meticulously designed, CNC machined, and assembled in the United States.
Compatibility and Features
It’s important to note that while the X/SIDE is compatible with nearly every handle (like the GDU Atlas), it cannot be used with the outrigger handle. The X/SIDE boasts an array of features including:
- Dual 2pin 0B lemo type power input connectors.
- An EXT 9pin 0B input cable connecting the camera to the X/SIDE.
- An EXT 9pin 0B passthrough connector for SmallHD camera control, redundancy, and other accessories.
- A 5pin 0B connector for timecode IN/OUT.
- A Genlock BNC connector.
- A 4pin 00B CTRL connector (compatible with SmallHD camera control, C-Force, Arri HI-5, etc.).
- A Fischer 3 R/S power passthrough on the front side, supporting 11-17v for trigger and power.
- A 2pin 0B power passthrough on the front side, also supporting 11-17v for powering a monitor or other accessories.
- A built-in REC button for ease of access.
- A built-in Tally REC Light, which can be activated via the camera menu under system settings.
Additionally, the X/SIDE includes camera direct and X/Side to X/Block braces, 1/4-20 tapped holes with Arri Standard pin locators, 3/8-16 tapped holes with Arri standard pin locators, and M4 holes for GDU Atlas handles. It also supports vertical video shooting.
Included Accessories
The package includes:
- Two M4 x 20mm screws.
- One 3mmx4.63 HEX key.
- An X/BLOCK bracing plate with screws.
- A Direct to X bracing plate with screws.
Important Note
As of the current date, the X/SIDE cannot be used simultaneously with the RED RF to PL top and bottom braces. However, MUTINY plans to release a compatible pair of braces in the near future.
