The RED KOMODO-X camera has been on the market for more than six months. During this time, several third-party companies, including Wooden Camera and Tilta, have developed various mechanical and electronic components for the camera.
MUTINY has emerged as a significant contributor in this arena, particularly with its latest product for the RED KOMODO-X.
Features of the MUTINY X/SIDE IO
The X/SIDE IO module, crafted through CNC machining, attaches securely to the KOMODO-X’s right side using two M4 screws at the front and a supporting plate at the top rear. This device stands out from others, like the Bright Tangerine Cheese Plate, by offering more than just mechanical support.
It includes numerous 1/4”-20 and 3/8”-16 mounting points and two M4 holes compatible with GDU Atlas side handles. More than a simple cheese plate, the X/SIDE IO integrates a variety of I/O connectors, acting as a combined cheese plate, breakout box, and power distribution module. The design is compact and well-integrated.
The module is powered through a 2-pin LEMO input and connects to the camera’s 9-pin EXT port via a short cable. This connection expands the camera’s I/O capabilities, adding a 4-pin CTRL, a Genlock BNC, a 5-pin Timecode in/out, and a 9-pin EXT passthrough connector at the rear. Additionally, it features two front-facing power ports: a 3-pin Fisher R/S for trigger and power (11-17V) and a 2-pin power passthrough.
MUTINY assures that the X/SIDE IO does not hinder the camera’s airflow. The module also includes a cut-out for accessing the camera’s original recording button and integrates an additional REC button with a tally light.
