In a strategic partnership, Net Insight has joined forces with Mobilelinks, a leader in broadcast and media transport services, to elevate the broadcasting standards of the Swedish Ice Hockey League (SHL), the premier league in Sweden.
Mobilelinks leverages Net Insight’s technology for the transmission services, ensuring a top-notch viewing experience for ice hockey fans.
TV4, as the holder of the SHL’s premium broadcasting rights, plays a crucial role in bringing the games to the public. Mobilelinks, on the other hand, is tasked with the vital role of overseeing all transport services, utilizing Net Insight’s advanced technology to accomplish this mission.
Infrastructure Expansion and Technical Enhancements
A key aspect of their collaboration is the enhancement of the Nimbra platform, which boasts the capacity to switch 1.2 terabits of data. This platform is instrumental in directing feeds from various locations to NEP’s datacenter, which serves as the central hub. The production of the broadcasts is managed from three remote production centers distributed across Sweden, ensuring efficient coverage of the league.
The infrastructure connects 14 SHL arenas, each equipped with dual 10Gb connections for redundancy, to handle the high demand during peak times, such as when up to seven games are played simultaneously.
This remote production model and centralized equipment strategy have allowed NEP to streamline broadcast equipment use, achieving greater efficiency and resource utilization.
A Milestone in Sports Broadcasting
The SHL has taken a significant step forward by being the first sports league to adopt UHD IP remote production. This move includes the use of 12 cameras ready for ST 2110 and JPEG XS standards, ensuring ultra-high-definition video quality and a flawless broadcasting experience for around 500 matches each season.
Commitment to Future-Ready Broadcasting
The transition to JPEG XS in UHD and the shift from SDI to ST 2110 underscore the league and its partners’ dedication to providing an unparalleled viewing experience. The Nimbra 1060 platform is at the heart of this initiative, known for its reliability and exceptional video quality.
Andreas Langell, CEO of Mobilelinks, highlighted the upgrade’s impact, emphasizing the importance of JPEG XS for UHD production and the benefits of advanced ST 2110 workflows. The low latency is especially valuable for producing the fast-paced action of ice hockey matches.
Crister Fritzson, CEO of Net Insight, remarked on the transformative potential of their collaboration with Mobilelinks and the Nimbra platform’s capabilities, signaling a new era in how fans interact with ice hockey broadcasts in Sweden.
