NETGEAR, Inc., a leader in networking solutions, has announced a collaboration with Intel that integrates Intel’s Media Transport Library and E800 series Network Interface Cards with NETGEAR’s M4350 series switches, which are capable of handling SMPTE ST 2110 protocols.
These switches are part of NETGEAR’s efforts to create advanced AV-over-IP solutions for the broadcast and professional AV markets. The products will be showcased at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) trade show in Las Vegas.
Growing Demand for Advanced Media on IP Networks
There is an increasing demand for higher bandwidth capabilities across both local area networks and internet gateways as media transmission shifts towards IP networks. This transition supports a variety of applications including video production, video communications, visual analytics, augmented and virtual reality, immersive 360-degree video, and digital signage, along with emerging fields such as the metaverse. The partnership between NETGEAR and Intel ensures that ST2110 networks will have high performance and seamless interoperability which is crucial for time-sensitive networking.
NETGEAR’s User-Friendly Managed Switches
NETGEAR’s series of managed switches, including the M4250, M4300, M4350, and M4500, feature an AV-oriented user interface that simplifies configuration by replacing complex traditional IT network settings with a simple, template-based setup. This user-friendly approach is designed to ease the transition for broadcast and Pro AV engineers from conventional workflows to IP-based systems. The M4350 series, in particular, offers features like redundant power supplies, Power over Ethernet (PoE) capabilities up to 90W per port, and quiet operation. These switches support a wide range of protocols necessary for professional AV setups.
Intel’s Contributions with Media Transport Library
The Intel Media Transport Library is an open-source project that accommodates the SMPTE ST 2110 standards, crucial for applications that require precise time synchronization and media stream coordination, such as live video production and digital signage. This library allows for high throughput, low latency, and reliable media transport across networked systems.
This initiative marks a significant milestone in the interoperability of streaming media protocols and hardware, streamlining the deployment of complex network systems in media-intensive environments.
