Nevion Virtuoso Enhances Media Processing Capabilities

Nevion, a company under the Sony Group umbrella, recently announced enhancements to its Virtuoso software-defined media node.

The updates introduce a novel audio interface and expand its up/down/cross conversion (UDC) features. These advancements bolster Virtuoso’s utility in live production settings, including outside broadcasts and centralized studio operations, serving as critical infrastructure for various production environments.

Expanded Audio and Video Processing

Virtuoso is renowned for its extensive audio functionalities, such as support for AES3, MADI, and SMPTE ST 2110 / AES67 IP audio with a multitude of processing features. The addition of the RPRO interface expands Virtuoso’s capabilities, enabling it to handle mixed digital and analog audio signals alongside GPIO and sync distribution. This is particularly advantageous for remote production applications.

On the video side, Virtuoso’s UDC feature now supports a range of high-quality format conversions for HD and UHD content, incorporating native SMPTE ST 2110-20 uncompressed video inputs and outputs. Newly added features include frame rate conversion and customizable 3D LUTs for advanced colour space conversion, improving on its existing capabilities such as de-interlacing and HDR/SDR conversion.

Enhancement to JPEG-XS and Display at NABShow

Further enhancing its capabilities, the latest update to Virtuoso also includes improvements to the JPEG-XS in TS (TR-07) feature, introduced at NAB 2023, facilitating IP-in/IP-out workflows. This positions Virtuoso as a comprehensive solution for media transport and processing needs in broadcasting.

Steve Hard, VP of Product Management at Nevion, emphasized the media node’s versatility and performance in processing, acknowledging customer recognition and appreciation for these traits. The updated Virtuoso will be showcased at the upcoming NABShow in Las Vegas, from April 14-17, 2024, at Sony’s booth C8201, within the Networked Live area, demonstrating its place as a leading solution for in-facility and outside broadcast applications.
