Nevion, part of the Sony Group and recognized for its innovative virtualized media production solutions, today introduced the Virtuoso UplinX.
This new addition serves as a 100G uplink enhancement for the already successful Nevion Virtuoso software-defined media node. The Virtuoso UplinX aims to consolidate IP streams from a maximum of eight Virtuoso units, offering a scalable and economically efficient method for interfacing with 100G networks.
Sony’s Networked Live Enhancement
The Virtuoso UplinX emerges as a vital enhancement to Sony’s Networked Live service, renowned for its global deployment in real-time signal transport, processing, and monitoring. With the shift towards IP technology in live production, the requirement for 100G interfaces is escalating. This development is crucial for centralized backend processes, such as video encoding/decoding and AV processing in datacenters, and for remote production setups that demand a 100G connection to wide-area networks (WAN).
Capabilities and Configuration
The Virtuoso UplinX add-on offers several 100G uplink (and downlink) interfaces, available in configurations of 2, 4, or 8 interfaces to meet various deployment needs. A single unit of Virtuoso UplinX can manage up to 192 uncompressed HD and 48 uncompressed UHD video signals both ways. This innovation not only addresses current requirements but also sets the stage for future advancements to 400G interfaces. The Virtuoso UplinX can be set up for either red or blue networks individually or combined within a single unit. Its configuration and management are streamlined through Virtuoso’s web interface, allowing for a cohesive view of the aggregated appliances.
Cost-Effective Transition to Higher Bandwidth
Virtuoso UplinX presents a more economical alternative to in-appliance interfaces or dedicated IP switches, facilitating the transition to 100G and potentially to 400G without necessitating upgrades to existing Virtuoso units or altering their setups.
Steve Hard, the Vice President of Product Management for Virtuoso at Nevion, emphasized the significant benefits of Virtuoso UplinX. He highlighted its power, versatility, scalability, and cost-effectiveness as essential for meeting the current and future demands for 100G interfacing.
Exhibition at NAB Show
The Nevion Virtuoso, including the new Virtuoso UplinX, will be showcased at the upcoming NAB Show in Las Vegas from April 14 to 17, 2024. Attendees can find it in the Networked Live section of Sony’s booth, numbered C8201.
