Canon just dropped some exciting news. They’re bringing out two new Super 35mm cinema zoom lenses for all you 4K and 8K ultra-high resolution shooters out there.
The CN-E14-35mm T1.7 L S/SP wide-angle zoom lens and the CN-E31.5-95mm T1.7 L S/SP mid-focal range zoom lens are gonna be a game-changer. No word on prices yet, but we can expect the CN-E14-35mm T1.7 L S/SP lens to hit the market in June 2023, and the CN-E31.5-95mm T1.7 L S/SP lens in October.
These new Canon cinema zoom lenses are the speed demons of the Super 35mm world with a T1.7 aperture. That means they create a super shallow depth of field that makes subjects pop and are a perfect match for fast prime lenses used in the same shoot.
Being able to convert between EF and PL mounts on these lenses makes it simple to change things up. Moreover, they are the first Canon cinema camera to feature the interchangeable relay kit, allowing you to convert between Full Frame and Super 35mm at any approved servicing facility.
These lenses have the cool feature of supporting a metadata workflow, including 4-pin Lemo connectivity, Cooke /i TechnologyTM, and ZEISS eXtended DataTM through PL mount. This is incredibly useful for virtual productions where positional data is required to make virtual backgrounds appear as realistic as feasible. Moreover, when used with compatible cameras, electronic lens communication with chromatic aberration and peripheral illumination correction, as well as a Dual Pixel Focus Guide for manual focus assistance, are available via EF mount.
