Amazon’s new Lord of the Rings series, The Rings of Power, employed a wealth of visual effects artists to create the company’s Middle-earth.

According to Variety, 20 VFX studios and 1,500 visual effects artists worked on the series.

Among the studios involved in the production were Industrial Light and Magic, Weta, Ncam, Blackmagic Design, ARRI and DNEG.

VFX producer Ron Ames told Variety that the series has been designed as if viewers are watching in a cinema, even though they’ll be streaming the show at home. He said, “Our target was the 65-inch screen at home, but we made it so that it would play technically beautifully in everything up to an IMAX screen. It is finished to a theatrical resolution.”

Earlier this week, Samsung announced it is working with Prime Video to offer fans access to exclusive 8K content from the series.

Samsung is deploying its Neural Quantum Processor 8K as well as Dolby Atmos and Object Tracking Sound – a Samsung audio technology that follows the action on the screen to offer fans the unique experience.
