Miami Welcomes Two New NextGen TV Broadcasters

Miami’s television landscape has advanced with two additional local stations, WSVN (Fox, channel 7) and WPLG (ABC/Disney, channel 10), joining the NextGen TV broadcasting platform, also known as ATSC 3.0.

This expansion follows the earlier adoption of ATSC 3.0 by several major stations in January 2023, including WTVJ (NBC, channel 6), WSCV (Telemundo, channel 51), WFOR (CBS, channel 4), WLTV (Univision, channel 23), and WPBT (PBS South Florida, channel 2) as a trial broadcaster.

Enhanced Services for Miami Viewers
These new entrants bring five additional services, raising the total NextGen TV offerings in Miami to 11. This upgrade benefits over 1.7 million TV households in the region. Bert Medina, President and CEO of WPLG-TV, expressed enthusiasm about providing a superior video and audio experience to South Florida viewers, emphasizing their commitment to informing, entertaining, and educating the community.

Complete Major Network Coverage
With WPLG and WSVN now broadcasting in ATSC 3.0, Miami enjoys complete major network coverage in this advanced format, including Fox, ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, Telemundo, and Univision. WPLG and WSVN have added three channels in this format: TheGrio (channel 7.2), This TV (channel 7.3), and WPLG LOCAL 10 Plus, a service previously available only via streaming.

Enhanced Viewer Experience
Paul Magnes, co-president and general manager at WSVN-TV, highlighted the improved reception and viewing experience offered by NextGen TV, including enhanced coverage of local news, live sports, and other programming.
