Nokia has announced the integration of MoCA Access into its Gigabit Connect portfolio. This innovative step provides cable operators with new means to serve customers in multi-dwelling units (MDUs) where fiber installation is challenging.
Nokia is pioneering in this area, being the first to offer a unified solution that combines FTTH (Fiber to the Home) and MoCA Access, creating a seamless link between the two technologies.
MoCA Access: Bridging the Fiber Gap in MDUs: With the addition of MoCA, Multiple System Operators (MSO) can now offer multi-gigabit services using the existing coaxial infrastructure in MDUs and commercial buildings, like hotels and hospitals, where fiber is not a viable option. Nokia’s MoCA access solution integrates with the FTTH network, utilizing the building’s existing coaxial setup, and operates as a unified system. Importantly, it allows for the coexistence of MoCA with traditional services like terrestrial, satellite, cable TV, and DOCSIS.
Industry Experts Weigh In: Jeff Heynen, Vice President at Dell’Oro, highlights the importance of MoCA for cable operators transitioning to FTTH in areas lacking fiber connectivity. Geert Heyninck, Vice President at Nokia, emphasizes the role of MoCA in enabling operators to extend gigabit speeds to hard-to-reach buildings, making the transition to fiber quicker and more effective.
Nokia and InCoax Networks: A Strategic Alliance: In related news, InCoax Networks and Nokia have formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Under this collaboration, Nokia will incorporate InCoax’s Fibre Access Extension system-solution into the Gigabit Connect portfolio. This partnership is set to address the global broadband operator market, focusing on MSOs and cable operators, with plans to start deliveries in the second half of 2024.
A Step Towards Global Broadband Accessibility: The agreement with InCoax Networks marks a strategic move towards offering global delivery of MoCA Access-based solutions for Fibre Access Extension, targeting multi-gigabit performance over coaxial cable networks in MDUs. The collaboration aims for a seamless integration of InCoax’s products into Nokia’s comprehensive broadband access solutions, managed through Nokia’s Altiplano Access Controller. Jörgen Ekengren, CEO of InCoax Networks, expresses confidence in the long-term benefits of this partnership, anticipating that InCoax’s MoCA Access solution will significantly enhance Nokia’s broadband access portfolio.
